While Cottonwood’s Theater Department was successful at the region competition, the success wasn’t quite as shared during the state competition at Bingham High. We still did rather well, but not nearly as well as at region. That’s to be expected; region only had four schools participating.   State had a total of twenty-three schools, from all across the Utah. Yet, despite the turn of events not playing out entirely in Cottonwood’s favor, we can say that there were success for us at the competition.

While none of us placed in the top three, Cottonwood did take home some glory on that Saturday, April the 15th. Despite Riverton and Bingham boasting about some students in different categories making the top three, Cottonwood managed to beat them in the Sweepstakes Awards. The sweepstakes were awarded based on the total scores from the students in each school, and not based on how many medaled or made it to the top three. Cottonwood managed to take third in the Sweepstakes, with a total of 290 points. The two other schools  were Murray, in second place, with 292 points, and finally American Fork High taking first with 296. Overall. It was neck-and-neck between the three schools. Out of twenty-three total schools, that’s something that the three schools can be rather proud of.

Whatever the case, Cottonwood has managed multiple successes in competition this year, both in Region and State. We have faced many hardships, but some of us advanced past the first round in both competitions. However, we managed to medal everyone in region, and win third in the sweepstakes. Where many didn’t make it, we pulled through.  We’ve shown them just how well Cottonwood’s theater department can do.
